As a result of this lesson, you will:
1. describe the basic components of an audio sound system.
2. distinguish among the common types of microphones according to pick-up
patterns.
3. distinguish among the common types of microphones according to the
type of element used in each.
4. describe the characteristics of high impedance and low impedance microphones.
5. use your knowledge of microphones in purchasing a microphone.
6. define "feedback" in amplification systems and describe how
to avoid it.
7. compare and contrast two types of phonograph cartridges.
8. compare and contrast two types of phonograph needles.
9. describe the path of an audio tape on a tape player and/or recorder.
10. compare and contrast the various types of reel-to-reel, cassette and
8-track audio tapes.
11. describe the characteristics of compact disc audio and its advantages
and limitations.
12. describe MP3 technology and discuss the advantages of digital audio technology today.
13. describe what an audio card system is, how one is used, and its advantages
and limitations.
14. identify at least two advantages to rate-controlled audio playback.
15. distinguish between "hearing" and "listening."
