Assigned Readings

Reading assignments primarily will come from the texts or related readings. The material should be read when it is assigned. This will give a common base from which to discuss issues and concerns on WebCT.

The Covell, Pettersson, and Sevilla texts have been ordered at the URI Bookstore in Kingston. You will find that they are also available at most of the online bookstores or can be ordered through one of your local bookstores. I would suggest that you obtain copies as soon as possible so you can do the readings for the first week of class.

Required Texts:

Covell, A. (2004). Digital Convergence Phase 2: A Field Guid for Creator-Collaborators. Champaign, IL: Stipes Publishing L.L.C. (ISBN: 1 58874 372 1)

Pettersson, R. (2002). Information Design: an Introduction. Philadelphia, PA: John Bejamins North America. (ISBN: 1 58811 338 8)

Sevilla, C. (2002). Information Design Desk Reference. Menlo Park, CA: Crisp Learning. (ISBN: 1 56052 610 6)

Optional Texts (On Reserve in URI Library):

Covell, A. (1999). Digital Convergence: How the Merging of Computers, Communications and Multimedia is Transforming Our Lives. Newport, RI: Aegis Publishing Group, Ltd. (ISBN: 1 890154 16 4)

Williams, R. The Non-Designer's Design Book. Berkeley, CA:Peachpit Press. (ISBN: 1 56609 159 4)

Please obtain the texts from the publisher, Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobles, some other online source, or through a local bookstore if you choose to use them. Most online sources send out the text within twenty-four hours. The optional texts have not been ordered through the bookstore in Kingston.
