Course Description

Introduces principles of architecture, library science and information science to plan, design, develop, and evaluate cohesive web sites and intranets that are attractive, navigable, manageable, and expandable.

Course Objectives

As a result of this course, you will:

 

  1. discuss the role of the information architecture in the planning, development, and maintenance of websites for library and information services. (GSLIS: 1, 5, 6, 15; RIDE: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10; SOE: 3, 6)*
  2. discuss hardware and software requirements for designing information on a website. (GSLIS: 1, 5, 6; RIDE: 2, 5, 10; SOE: 3, 6)*
  3. discuss the history of the Internet and the various tools and protocols necessary for effective and efficient information design of websites. (GSLIS: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 15, 19, 20; RIDE: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10; SOE: 1, 3, 4, 6)*
  4. use browsers, search engines, directories and meta-search engines to develop lists of resources for a virtual library. (GSLIS: 1, 5, 6, 15; RIDE: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10; SOE: 3, 6)*
  5. design, develop, evaluate, and maintain a virtual library website. (GSLIS: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 ; RIDE: 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 10; SOE: 1, 3, 4, 6)*
