INTERNET FOR LIBRARIANS

Objectives: 5/25/06


As a result of this lesson, you will:

1. read Chapter 21 in Rosenfeld, Chapter 7 in Steilow and Chapters 9 through 12 in Williams & Tollett.

2. investigate and try incorporating graphics, photographs, video and audio on your web site.

3. define visual literacy.

4. describe how to design visuals for information purposes, containing graphic and picture elements, containing text and lettering elements, and including color.

5. describe and use basic guidelines for designing web pages involving titles, instructions, text, highlighting and/or graphics.

6. visit the International Visual Literacy Association (IVLA) web site.

7. use resources from the WWW for graphics, backgrounds, color, etc. to enhance your virtual library.

8. visit the "Introduction to PERL" website and try using PERL.

9. visit the "Overview of XML" and the "Introduction to XML" website and try using XML.

10. apply information architecture to the GSLIS site.
