INTERNET FOR LIBRARIANS

Research Paper



You will write a research paper (8 to 10 pages). The paper must clearly express your opinions on the matter. The paper may be on a critical issue concerning the Internet, where your focus is on a particular issue that affects library or information services. Issues of interest may be:
 
  • Intellectual freedom on the Internet
  • Intellectual property rights, copyright and free access to information in the networked environment
  • Internet security, cryptography and public key encryption
  • Internet commerce
  • Implications of the digital divide
  • The effects of the Internet on our lifestyle in our work and personal lives
  • Governmental control of networked information
  • The protection of privacy on the Internet
  • The development of digital or virtual libraries
  • Commercialization on the Internet of academic institutions and libraries
The focus of your paper could be more practical and show how the Internet can be integrated more readily into a librarian's work life. This paper should clearly present a practical method for integration. Some suggestions along these lines:
 
  • Re-organization of the physical library to better incorporate the Internet into the library's workflow
  • Re-organization of the librarians job descriptions (roles) to better incorporate the Internet into the library's workflow
  • The role of a library's website for the librarians


You are not limited to these sugestions, but you are required to gain permission from you instructor for the topic of your paper.

This paper is to be written in standard academic format such as recommended by APA, Turabian, etc. Be sure all relevant sources that you use are cited.
