Virtual Library Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is for you to develop a virtual library, that is, a library that provides all services through the Internet rather than in a building. The virtual library projects developed in this class will probably vary greatly. It will depend on where there is a need and an audience!

You may want to start developing a virtual library for the place where you work. You might want to create one for an organization to which you belong such as a church, a sports team or a community group. You could do one as a resource for your family.

You will be expected to arrive at the face-to-face class session during the first week of classes with at least one idea for a virtual library. This project may be done individually or in a group of not more than four persons. You will share your idea(s) with the rest of the class at the first session. Groups will be formed for those who prefer to work together with others on this project so your idea may not be used for this class if you choose to join a group using someone else's idea.

You (or a member of your group) should email your idea for your virtual library to me by June 4 for approval. Your draft of the initial phase of your virtual library should be emailed to me by June 11. The draft of you prototype phase of your virtual library assignment should be given to me by June 25. The pilot phase of your virtual library should be posted by July 23 and any revisions done by July 27. This assignment is worth 30% of your final grade.

Assignment due: 7/27/06
