SEMINAR PRESENTATION (30% course grade)

Brief the class on a program, activity, or issue of interest. A sign-up sheet with possible topics and their appropriate dates will be circulated at the first class session; to avoid duplication, cross off the topic you choose. If you come up with an alternative topic, present it for approval. If more than one of you would like to do the same topic, a team collaboration may also be approved.

Whether you choose to focus on a program or an issue, your presentation will be substantive and will include your own thoughts, not just a bulleted list of links or high points from your readings. And although the appearance of an online presentation does count, it doesn't have to be fancy. At least 80% of your grade on this will be awarded for content, not glitz.

[Student librarians may design their presentations as web sites or as Word documents, aiming for legibility, appeal, navigability, and efficient download time]

Criteria for grading will include:

Clear rationale for program or activity (describes why it’s done as well as how), or clear exposition of why the issue matters (30%)
Program or activity well thought through (problems recognized and solutions proposed; evaluation planned), OR both sides of issue well presented, and reasonable criteria for deciding it provided (30%)
Presentation well organized and appealing; does not exceed normal download times and system capacities (20%)
Design and layout clear and effective; any visuals and links relevant and useful, etc. (20%; note that visuals are not required, and should not be used unless they advance the purpose of the presentation -- and in the case of nifty movie clips that would require us all to download new programs, maybe not even then.)
