Basis for grades:

  1. Essay on Public Library Philosophy (Portfolio, 1st Installment)
  2. Presentation (30%)
  3. Grant Proposal (30%) or Alternative
  4. Portfolio (40%)

Interpretation of grades: A grade of B on an assignment in this course will mean that you have met the basic requirements for the assignment; your performance would be acceptable on a professional level. A grade of A will mean that your performance is not only acceptable, but distinguished. A grade of C for graduate students indicates failure to perform at an acceptable level for graduate credit.

General requirements: For the fall of 2005, LSC 521 meets face-to-face. The course will also have a WebCT site, where "lecture" notes will be posted, course-related questions will be addressed, and the grant proposal critique groups will have private discussion areas.

Your final drafts of assignments should be clearly and appropriately formatted and well proofread. Use the style manual of your choice for citations. Remember to credit your sources for direct quotations, statistics, information and distinct ideas; to be consistent in your style of citation; and to give enough information so that a researcher could find your source.

Your work should be turned in when it is due. Since this is a face-to-face course, you should submit written assignments in class, in hard copy. If you are unable to meet a deadline, please let me know in advance so that we can make alternative arrangements. Work handed in late without an acceptable excuse will be marked down by a full letter grade the first week and a fraction of one each following week.
