Alumni

GSLIS alumni are movers and shakers. Library Journal has recognized a few of you:

2004: Aaron Coutu (MLIS 1999)

2007: Jenny LaPerriere (MLIS 1999)

2009: Rebecca Blakely (MLIS 2005) and Nancy Keane (MLS 1976)

2010: Ed Garcia (MLIS 2008) and Sarah Sogigian (MLIS 2005)

At our Annual Gathering each year, GSLIS recognizes Graduates of the Year:

2004: Mike Kronenfeld

2005: Anne Parent

2006: Lucille Chernack

2007: Mary MacDonald

2008: Donna Good

2009: Alexander Caracuzzo and Cynthia Lunghofer

2010: Aaron Coutu and Dr. Fred Stielow

2011: Darshell Silva and Carolyn A. Anthony

And we notice our graduates' accomplishments everywhere we look.

GSLIS graduates hold elective offices and vital committee assignments in professional associations. We hear your voices raised in advocacy for individual libraries and programs, and we're also proud of Jamie Greene's congressional testimony in support of school library media programs nationwide.

graduateGSLIS graduates run large libraries and small ones; you digitize major collections, reach out to children and teenagers in every kind of neighborhood, and create collaborations and networks everywhere. We watch you creating new homework centers and websites, and we recruit you as mentors and teachers for current students.

To keep in touch with you and celebrate your accomplishments, we hold an Annual Gathering each spring; maintain an alumni listserv (URILISALUM@listserv.uri.edu); and publish an online newsletter. We also maintain a list of library jobs in New England, and link to many other employment resources.

At the 2010 Annual Gathering, Howard Boksenbaum (Chief, Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services) gave the keynote address, "Now That We Have the Internet, Why Do We Still Need Libraries?" -- which, he concluded, is the wrong question:
