Academics
GSLIS offers the Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS), which is an ALA accredited degree, with specializations in academic libraries, public libraries, school library media, special libraries (such as corporate, government, hospital and law), information technology, and other tracks to meet the needs of the individual student. Formal dual-masters cooperative programs have been formed with the departments of English, History and Public Administration. Other dual-masters degree programs may be formed with the consent of GSLIS and other departments.
Matriculated students should meet with their advisors early after admittance to discuss their programs of study. Their programs of study must be completed early in their programs (no later than after two or three courses have been completed).
The Teacher Certification Program (TCP)
with a specialization in library media is also offered for graduates with M.L.I.S. degrees. Information Literacy Instruction Certificate (ILIC) is also available. Students doing the ILIC with their MLIS must complete a program of study form for the ILIC when submitting their program of study for the MLIS.
International Programs
have been instituted to offer opportunities to study abroad such as summer programs in China.
