Vanishing Illusions
You are about to see some new pictures of an old
paradox, in which a rectangular frame
is partitioned into a top-half and a bottom-half, and the
top-half partitioned again into two
frames called A and B. The bottom piece is labeled C.
Each pair of pictures shows
"before-and-after", meaning that in the "before"-state
piece A is located to the left of B,
and in the "after"-state piece B is located to
the left of A. In other words, pieces A and B
switch places in each pair of pictures. And, in every
case, one of the objects appearing in
the first picture (before the switch) is missing
in the second picture (after pieces A and B
switch places)! Count them for yourself! How do you
explain this? Which object
vanished? Where did it go?
