  • French is one of the fastest growing majors (if not the fastest) at URI: 1999=30 French Majors at URI; 2008=158 French Majors at URI; French appears on the URI College of Arts and Sciences' "Most Popular Majors" List. See URI French Alumni, Where Are They Now?
  • One of the largest French programs (in number of majors) in the country
  • The majority of URI French Majors are double or triple majors and the majority finish in 4 years (except for IEP and Pharmacy)
  • Disciplines combined with French at URI as of today: Accounting, Animal Science, Anthropology, Art History, Art Studio, Biology, Classics, Communications Studies, Communicative Disorders, Comparative Literature, Computer Science, Chemistry, Economics, Elementary Education, Engineering (all fields), English, Environmental Plant Biology, Film Media, Finance, German, History, Honors Program, Human Development, International Business, International Development, Italian, Journalism, Management, Marine Biology, Marketing, Mathematics, Music, Nursing, Nutrition, Pharmacy, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Relations, Secondary Education, Sociology, Spanish, Theater, Textiles Marketing, Textiles Merchandising Design, Wildlife Conservation Biology, Writing
  • French Majors enrolled in the International Engineering Program (IEP) or in the Pharmacy program receive two degrees in 5 and 6 years and complete an internship in France or Quebec (IEP) or two of their 3 rotations in Rennes, France (Pharmacy)
  • The majority of French majors study abroad during their junior year and/or during a summer session. URI direct exchange programs with the Euromed School of Management in Marseille, France; the University of Orléans, France; the University of Technology at Compiègne, France; and Laval University in Quebec allow in state students to study abroad for the same tuition/fees; out-of-state students pay the equivalent of in-state tution/fees when studying in Orléans, Marseille, Compiègne or Quebec! Financial aid and scholarships (Centennial, etc.) apply. Other programs available in Aix-en-Provence, Cannes, Paris, and Quebec, among others (See Study Abroad)
  • Mr. Logan Connors, member of the Rochambeau 2004 URI French Class, won a prestigious Mellon Fellowship (the first ever in URI history); 5 of the 2004 URI President’s Excellence Awards were double French majors (Art History, Communications Studies, French, Mechanical Engineering, Public Relations); 3 in 2005 (Communications Studies, French, and Microbiology-Minor in French
