How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All

Martha S. Jones, Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor and Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University, will give a virtual talk on race and suffrage. Professor Jones’s books include Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All (2020) and Birthright Citizens: A History of Race and Rights in Antebellum America (2018).

The event is part of a yearlong virtual series, Long Rhode to the Vote: Suffrage Centennial Lecture Series.
