Sandra Alfers (Ph.D. University of Massachusetts at Amherst) is Assistant Professor of German at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA, where she has been teaching since 2008. Before accepting a position on the West Coast, she lived in the Northeast and worked at Dickinson and Mount Holyoke College, where she taught at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum. She visited the summer program in Rhode Island on several occasions and 2008 marked her first time on the teaching faculty at the Deutsche Sommerschule am Atlantik. Her research and teaching interests are in 20th Century German Culture, in particular on artistic representations of the Holocaust (literature & film). She is looking forward to teaching the first-year language sequence this summer and introducing students to all things 'German' (such as Döner, Dativ, and Dada).
