Norbert Hedderich


Norbert Hedderich (Ph.D., Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana) is an Associate Professor of German at the University of Rhode Island. He teaches all levels of undergraduate German courses, including courses on language variation in German and Business German. He is chair of the German section, and director of the Deutsche Sommerschule am Atlantik, the University of Rhode Island's annual summer immersion program for German language and culture.

His scholarly interests include language teaching methodology, the German language, teaching language for special purposes, teaching language with technology, and intercultural communication. He has published articles in Die Unterrichtspraxis/ Teaching German, The NECTFL Review, Global Business Languages, Schatzkammer der Deutschen Sprache, Dichtung und Geschichte and The Journal of Language for International Business.

The German Summer School of the Atlantic (Die Deutsche Sommerschule am Atlantik - DSSA) provides intensive German language instruction at all proficiency levels.  Designed with students, teachers, and professionals in mind, the German Summer School offers fully accredited courses in German language, culture and literature in a German-only environment with extensive extracurricular programs.  We can accommodate special courses for engineering and business students, faculty and professionals through a collaboration with the International Engineering Program at the University of Rhode Island.  The German Summer School is located near Rhode Island's beach resorts, Newport, and historic Providence.
