
Japanese
The University of Rhode Island currently offers coursework in modern Japanese. The four classes currently offered are:
- Japanese 101: Beginning Japanese I- Fall Semester only
- Japanese 102: Beginning Japanese II- Spring Semester only
- Japanese 103: Intermediate Japanese I- Fall Semester only
- Japanese 104: Intermediate Japanese II- Spring Semester only
The beginning level focuses on: Fundamentals of grammar and pronunciation, exercises in reading, writing, and conversation.
The intermediate level focuses on: Development of facility in reading narrative and expository prose; exercises in grammar, listening comprehension, and speaking.
Prerequisites:
101- no prior Japanese course is required
102- Japanese 101 or the equivalent
103- Japanese 102 or the equivalent
104- Japanese 103 or the equivalent
Students also have the option of continuing Japanese coursework via independent study with permission of instructor.
Study Abroad: URI offers two programs for studying abroad in Japan:
- A semester long program at Kansai Gaidai University located in the Hirakata City.
- A year long exchange program at Seinan Gakuin University located in Fukuoka (southwestern Japan).
