Latin American Studies

 

Students selecting this field are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits as follows:

    APG 315

    HIS 381

    HIS 382

    One additional history course dealing with the major

    6 credits in Spanish or Portuguese from the approved list

    LAS 397

    PSC 201

    ECN 363

    9 credits of electives from the approved list of courses

 

Students must file their program of study with the Office of the Dean.

 

Credits leading to the BA in Latin American studies may also be taken at foreign universities or other universities in the United States that offer programs in Latin American studies.  Approval of the Latin American Studies Committee is needed, and at least 15 credits in the major must be taken at the University of Rhode Island.

 

Students are highly encouraged to participate in study abroad programs in Latin America.

 

A total of 120 credits is required for graduation.  At least 42 of these credits must be in courses numbered 300 or above.
