MSG Carl Johnson

Master Sergeant Carl Johnson is a native of Richland Center, Wisconsin and entered active duty in July, 1982 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon completion of Armor One Station Unit Training, he was assigned as an instructor with C Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Training Brigade. From 1983 to 1986, he was assigned to H Company, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas, where he performed duties as gunner, tank commander, and NBC NCO. From 1986 to 1989, he served as tank commander and platoon sergeant with B Company, 5th Battalion, 77th Armor in Mannheim, Germany. From 1989 to 1993, Master Sergeant Johnson served as instructor, drill sergeant, and training non-commissioned officer in B Company, 2nd Battalion, 13th Armor Regiment, Fort Knox, Kentucky. From 1994 to 1998, he served as platoon sergeant with G Troop, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Bliss, Texas and Fort Carson, Colorado. From 1998 to 2001, he served as operations NCO and first sergeant with 2nd Battalion, 63rd Armor, Vilseck, Germany. He is currently assigned as the senior military instructor at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, Rhode Island.

Master Sergeant Johnson is a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic and Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Courses, the US Army Drill Sergeant School, and the US Army First Sergeant's Course.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (w/2 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (w/1 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (w/8 OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Kosovo Liberation Medal, the NATO-Yugoslavia Medal, the Drill Sergeant Badge, and the Bronze Medallion of the Loyal Order of Saint George.

Master Sergeant Johnson is married to the former Judy Schumacher of Richland Center, Wisconsin, and they have two sons, Nathan, 10, and Jacob, 6.
