Music Education Workshop: ÒWorld Music Drumming ÐWest Africa, the Caribbean and Other Cultures,Ó Will Schmid, clinician. This workshop will aid music educators and future music teachers in planning and executing multicultural lessons for their students, specifically world music drumming of African and Latin American culture. Will Schmid, Ph. D. from the Eastman School of Music and is a past-president of MENC, The National Association for Music Education, the URI Chapter of which is sponsoring this event. The event is from 9:00 am-12:30 pm in the Fine Arts Center C100. Registration is $10 for teachers and $5 for university students. Contact Audrey Cardany at Audrey.Cardany@uri.edu or 874-2001.

University Artist Series: "URI Music Faculty Collage Concert." A fast paced, wide ranging program by faculty artists. Performers include pianist Manabu Takasawa, international artist who recently performed in the Czech Republic, Italy, United Kingdom and Japan; soprano Margaret Frazier, performer and recording artist who tours with the Boston Camerata; cellist Susan Robinson, member of the cello faculty at The Hartt School; jazz pianist Joe Parillo, Grammy nominated composer and Steinway artist who has toured internationally; flutist Susan Thomas, principal flute with the Rhode Island Philharmonic; tenor Mark Conley, Director of Choral Activities and recent conductor at Carnegie Hall; and accompanist Michelle Beaton whose advanced degrees in accompanying and chamber music come from Westminster Choir College and University of Michigan. The Collage lasts approximately one hour without intermission. 8:00 pm.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble:  Gene Pollart, director"Mysticals," featuring  Kšnigsmarsch by R. Strauss, Goddess of Fire by Reineke, Masque by McBeth and Robert W. Smith's Twelve Seconds to the Moon.  3:00 pm.

23      Friday

Concert Band:  Brian Cardany, director.  The program will reflect the diverse and eclectic nature of the contemporary wind band repertoire, from standard concert pieces to recently composed works.  8:00 pm.

25      Sunday

University Artist Series:  David Kim, guest violinist, with the  URI Symphony Orchestra, Ann Danis, director.  Kim will perform the Bruch Violin Concerto #1 in g minor with the Orchestra.  David Kim, Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra, was artistic director of the Kingston Chamber Music Festival for twenty years.  This concert is partly funded through gifts from Kenneth and Susan Kermes and Winifred Brownell.  4:00 pm.  General Admission:  $15, students $5.  Tickets can be purchased by cash or check at the Music Office in the Fine Arts Center after October 1 or at the Concert Hall Box Office two hours prior to the start of the concert.

End of Semester Jazz Sessions III:  Joseph Parillo, coordinator.    C100 Big Band with Student Combos.  Fifteen- plus piece band featuring a student vocalist spreading the joy of jazz.  7:30 pm.
