16      Sunday        University Artist Series: Two Pianos Plus. 28    Friday          Great Performances: Rebel Baroque Orchestra: L'Estro Armonico.  Trumpet, 4 violins, 2 violas, cello, bass, theorbo & harpsichord. L'Estro Armonico , or "musical inspiration", the title of Antonio Vivaldi's brilliant Opus 3 aptly describes an exuberant and colorful extravaganza of rarely performed concerti for trumpet and multiple violins. 12      Friday        Great Performances:  The Rose Ensemble. Oli and Mele - Retracing the Path of Early Hawaiian Vocals.  Hawaiian chants ("oli" and "mele"), fun-loving cowboy songs and gorgeous compositions by Queen Lili'uokalani (and other Hawaiian monarchs) in addition to an impressive array of traditional Hawaiian musical instruments. 8:00 p.m. Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. $20 General Admission; $15 URI Faculty/Staff/Seniors; $5 Students.

14      Sunday       University Artist Series. Songs of the Sea. Baritone René de la Garza will perform art songs of Schubert, Hahn, Delano, Meyerbeer and a premier of a new composition by Eliane Aberdam entitled Les Baleines (the whales). Some of your favorite sea shanties will be performed in an arrangement for baritone, men's chorus and instruments with conductor Mark Conley and pianist Eric Mazonson. 3:00 p.m. Fine Arts Center Concert Hall.   General Admission $8; Students $2.

21      Sunday       University Artist Series. Rhode Island Music Through the Years -- Short Stories by URI Authors. Professor Carolyn Livingston and former graduate students. A multi-media presentation that depicts brief examples of Rhode Island's rich history of musical involvement. Inauguration of the Music Department's Livingston/Zitkin Scholarship in Music. 3:00 p.m. Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. Proceeds go to the Livingston/Zitkin Scholarship Endowment.

26      Friday        University Artist Series.  Divertissement D'Arundo.  Jane Murray, oboe; Kelli O'Connor, clarinet; Stevi Caufield, bassoon and Gary Chapman, piano.  ArundoDonax, the plant name for reed cane, produces the color and timbre of these three wind instruments. Repertoire selected from early 20 th century French composers known as Les Six : Francis Poulenc, George Auric and Darius Milhaud. Program includes Madeline Dring's jazzy Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano and the quartet Tour D'Anches by Florent Schmidt, a friend of Ravel.   8:00 p.m. Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. 2        Friday        Great Performances: Music from China, Wong Guowei, artistic director.  Based in New York City, Music from China introduces audiences to the best of Chinese music both past and present. This world-class ensemble features the sights and sounds of "silk strings and bamboo winds" combined with the percussive power of drums, gongs, cymbals and woodblocks. 10      Saturday     University Artist Series. Romances for Violin and Piano:  An Evening of Music by Women Composers. Manabu Takasawa, piano; Susan Pickett, violin assisted by Carrie Koslofsky, soprano.  Susan Pickett, the Catherine Chism Professor of Music at Whitman College, has published over 30 editions of music by women composers. The concert reveals the rare beauty of this music written by   European and American women from the 19th and early 20th centuries. 16      Friday        Great Performances: Auréole Trio. Auréole's unique and colorful blend of flute, viola and harp has captivated audiences around the world.
