PAULETTE LAPARLE has been an active member of the choral community of Rhode Island for many years. Originally, Paulette taught elementary and middle school general music in the Barrington Public Schools. Since joining the Barrington High School faculty in 1981, she initiated the Choral Ensemble, an award winning choir, and the Electronic Music course, a state of the art technology class. As an active member of the R.I. Music Educators National Conference and the American Choral Directors Association, Paulette served as choral manager for the Junior and Senior All-State Festivals and state chair for Tri-M. She was the facilities chair for the annual RIMEA Choral Festival and served on the board of the state ACDA chapter as the Repertoire and Standards Chairperson. She has mentored and acted as a cooperating teacher for University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College and Providence College students. Paulette is recognized in the Who’s Who Among American School Teachers and received the Anna Maria College Excellence in Counseling/Teaching Award from Anna Maria College in 2002. She received the Olmsted Prize for Superior Teaching from Williams College in 2005, Barrington Public School's Nominee for National Teacher of the Year 2006, R.I. Teacher of the Year 2006 Semi Finalist and was entered into the 2011 Rhode Island College Alumni Honor Roll. In 2011, Paulette retired as the Barrington High School Choral Director after 32 years of service. In 2013, she accepted the position as conductor of the University Chorus at the University of Rhode Island and the Junior Providence Singers.
