Bio
MELISSA WOOLVERTON was born and raised in Manitoba, Canada and at the age of three began studying classical piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music, Canada. She continued her piano studies at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD and graduated with a Bachelors of General Studies (summa cum laude) with a piano, voice, and theatre emphasis. The Astors ’ Beechwood Theatre Company in Newport, RI brought Melissa to Rhode Island in 2004, and she was an actor and the Music Director for four years.

Currently, Melissa is a staff accompanist for the University of Rhode Island and Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. She is the accompanist for the Chorus of Westerly and the Greater Tiverton Community Chorus and regularly performs with Opera Providence.
She is the accompanist/music director for SRU’s Opera Workshop and has been music director for the Newport Children’s Theatre and SRU’s musical production of Two Gentlemen of Verona. She was a featured soloist with SRU’s Community Orchestra performing Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos No. 10 in E Flat.

Two of Melissa’s “most exciting” musical experiences have been performing rare piano duets in Newport, RI with Ben Malensek, a vocal coach/pianist for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and previously of the Metropolitan Opera, and working with Suzanne Vega, Dunkan Sheik, artist and composer of Spring Awakening, and Gerry Leonard, guitarist/music director for David Bowie, as pianist for rehearsals and work-shopped performances of Ms. Vega’s music-theatre piece, Carson McCullers Talks About Love at The Yard performance venue in Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard. (The show premiered at New York’s Rattlestick Theatre in April 2011.)
