Profile

BRIAN CARDANY   taught public school instrumental music in Virginia and Maryland for five years, including concert band, marching band, jazz band, pit orchestra, percussion ensemble and classroom guitar. As a graduate teaching assistant with the Band Department at Arizona State University, he managed and conducted all four concert ensembles (Chamber Winds, Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band), directed the ASU Pep Band and worked extensively with the Sun Devil Marching Band. He also founded the Arizona State University Brass Choir and served as its conductor for three years.

Dr. Cardany served as conductor of the 2005 Rhode Island Junior Division All-State Band.   He has been an adjudicator for honor band auditions at the county, district and state levels, and has repeatedly been invited to serve as an adjudicator/clinician for concert band and jazz band festivals sponsored by the Rhode Island Music Educators Association and the Maine Music Educators Association.   Increasingly sought as a guest conductor/clinician, Dr. Cardany has been invited to schools in Maryland, Connecticut, and throughout Rhode Island.   As a trumpet player, he has performed with the Maryland Wind Symphony, the Sunset Jazz Orchestra in Washington, D. C. and the Tempe Symphony Orchestra in Tempe, Arizona. He is currently a member of the American Band in Providence, Rhode Island, for which he also serves as the Assistant Conductor.

In addition to his duties as a conductor and teacher, Dr. Cardany is the sponsor for the Theta Upsilon chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, coordinator of the Southern New England Honor Band and conductor of the URI Commencement Band. He is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, National Band Association, Conductors Guild, National Association for Music Education (MENC), International Association for Jazz Education, and the International Trumpet Guild.
