Profile
JOHN DEMPSEY is the concertmaster of the Boston Festival Orchestra in performances with the Westerly Chorus and concertmaster of orchestras performing with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Swanhurst Chorus. He has performed at the Red Lodge, Montana, and the Grand Teton Music Festivals and appeared as a violinist in the Hollywood movies, "True Lies" and "Amistad".

Mr. Dempsey served as a first violinist in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra for many years and also as the principal second violinist with the Ocean State Chamber Orchestra. He has given numerous chamber music performances throughout the eastern United States as a member of the Kent Trio and the Rhode Island String Quartet including concerts at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall. He has performed chamber music with the Rhode Island String Quartet in England and Norway.

In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Dempsey has served for several years as the associate chair of the Music Department and also as the chair of the department's Scholarship and Recruitment Committee.
