JARED SIMS is a woodwind performer based in Boston. He performs a wide range of styles including classical saxophone, reggae, Latin, rock, as well as traditional and avant-garde jazz. Jared founded and toured nationally with the Miracle Orchestra. Presently, Jared performs with Dead Cat Bounce, Dub and Bass, and Mango Blue. Past appearances have been with Pressure Cooker, Toussaint Liberator, Brian Thomas Group, Adonai and I, Chris Allen's Estate, and Charlie Kohlhase's Saxophone Support Group.
Jared has multiple recordings with the Blueprint Project. The group's third record featuring Cecil McBee and Matt Wilson got 4 stars in Downbeat Magazine. The group recently recorded with Dutch drummer Han Bennink.
Jared has appeared at Northsea, Telluride, Beantown, and New Haven Jazz Festivals as well as the 2004 UK Limmud Conference. He is currently on the faculty at the University of New Hampshire on the Manchester and Durham campuses as well as the University of Rhode Island. Jared presently teaches classical saxophone, saxophone master classes, jazz woodwinds, jazz combos, woodwind methods, introduction to music, and jazz history. He holds a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music from West Virginia University.
