GRADUATE STUDY IN MUSIC AT URI TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM (TCP) The TCP is a program leading to teacher certification in the State of Rhode Island. It is not a degree program. Students enroll at the graduate level for the TCP alone or in conjunction with the Master of Music degree. The typical candidate has completed the equivalent of the URI Bachelor of Music degree program in performance or composition with courses in music theory, form and analysis, music history, performance, and vocal and instrumental ensembles. Students interested in obtaining teacher certification should make an appointment to discuss their academic and career goals with the Director of Graduate Studies in Music. Applicants to the TCP must follow the same application process as do applicants for other graduate programs.
