Mission

The University of Rhode Island Music Department, through its Preparatory Program, seeks to provide high-quality, reasonably priced music programs to adults and children from the surrounding community.

This program also serves as a laboratory type setting in which to provide URI music majors with the skills and training necessary to become qualified studio teachers.

Instruction is provided (depending on teacher availability) in orchestral and band instruments, voice, piano and guitar. Other instruments may be available if requested.

Mentoring

Part of the mission of the Preparatory Progam is to train URI music majors in the art of studio teaching.

Each teacher begins this training by observing an experienced teacher in his or her lessons.

You may find a visitor in your lessons from time to time. Please understand that the teacher-in-training is there to learn.

We appreciate your understanding of this essential part of the success of this program.

Registration Policy for
private lessons

Once we have recieved your form and payment we will have a teacher contact you to schedule lessons. We will hold your check until lessons have been scheduled and return it to you if scheduling is impossible.
