Associate Professor. (Ph.D., Boston College,1978). Professor Mead taught at Boston College and Simmons College in Boston and worked at the National Bureau of Economic Research before coming to URI. Since that time he has taught a variety of courses in the Department, including Introductory Economics, Regional/Urban Economics, Mathematics for Economists, and Macroeconomcs. In recent years he has developed a course centered around the role of the computer and information in today's society, a course in which students will log more than a few hours in the library and surfing on the Internet collecting data which they will be expected to effectively analyze. He is also heavily involved in the Business College's MBA programs in which he has taught the Managerial and International Economics courses.
Professor Mead has also spent time as a department advisor to the University College and is especially interested in advising students heading to business school or into the job market. He is also the department advisor for student internships.
His research interests are in the areas of regional economic performance, demographics, and the economics of higher education. His work has appeared in the Providence Journal and the Providence Business News.
When he is not involved with his students he can be found sailing (in the 'off-season') or in Mackal working on his jump shot.
