Associate Professor. (Ph.D.,
Brown University, 1973.) A native of Lahaina, Hawaii, Professor Suzawa has
been at URI since 1971. He has done National Science Foundation sponsored
research on the economics of technological change, co-authoring a book
entitled Research and Productivity: A theory of Endogenous Technical
Change. He is a research associate of the Japan-U.S. Center for the
Study of Business and Economics at the Stern School of Business of New York
University and has served as a consultant to the Manufacturing Jewelers and
Silversmiths of America, a trade association, the Western Trade Adjustment
Assistance Center, and the Narragansett Bay Water Quality Management
District Commission.
Professor Suzawa has taught courses in economic development, international
trade, micro and macro economic theory, and the economics of technological
change. He is keenly interested in helping students develop their
analytical and creative abilities to the fullest extent in preparation for
graduate studies or challenging careers. Professor Suzawa would be
especially happy to advise students who wish to strive for academic excellence.
