Professor and Chair of Economics. (Ph.D., Boston College,1978). Professor Mead taught
at Boston College and Simmons College in Boston and worked at the National Bureau of
Economic Research before coming to URI. Since that time he has taught a variety of courses
in the Department, including Introductory Economics, Regional/Urban Economics, Mathematics
for Economists, and Macroeconomcs. In recent years he has developed a course centered
around the role of the computer and information in today's society, a course in which

collecting data which they will be expected to effectively analyze. He is also heavily
involved in the Business College's MBA programs in which he has taught the Managerial and
International Economics courses.
Professor Mead has also spent time as a department advisor to the University College and
is especially interested in advising students heading to business school or into the job
market. He is also the department advisor for student internships.
His research interests are in the areas of regional economic performance, demographics,
and the economics of higher education. His work has appeared in the Providence Journal
and the Providence Business News.
When he is not involved with his students he can be found sailing (in the 'off-season') or
in Mackal working on his jump shot.
