Welcome to Everything and Everything You
Wanted to Know About Economics in a Few Painful Weeks, a course designed to introduce
you the basic principles of a discipline called Economics. In the course you will be
introduced to a few basic principles and skills that I think are critically important for
you to understand in your careers outside of academia and you will be asked to use these
principles and skills to interpret/explain the overall performance of the economy and to
gain some insight into the behavior of households and firms, the primary decision makers
in our economic system. This course was designed to be an integral component of the first
phase of your MBA program. For this reason I have worked closely with other faculty to
design assignments and sequence topics in this course so that there will be a considerable
amount of linkage between the economics and quantitative skills courses.
If all goes well, by the end of the course you should have: improved data analysis skills
a better historical perspective on the US economy better presentation skills improved team
work skills an expanded knowledge of economic concepts an easier time reading the popular
financial/economic press
If you want to know more about either course, check out the Syllabi.
