Graduate Fellowship opportunities: The URI Graduate School of Library and Information Studies has received a $232,646 federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The grant will support fellowships for six graduate students. The Fellowships will enable these students to complete the MLIS degree and prepare them to work with diverse populations. Because one of the goals of the project is "to increase the diversity within the library and information science profession through the recruitment of members of underrepresented ethnic minorities into the field of library and information studies," we are especially interested in receiving applications from qualified African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans. Please call this fellowship opportunity to the attention of any bright, culturally competent students who have completed their undergraduate degrees in your department and who might be interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Library and Information Studies. For more detailed information, please contact: Mike Havener, Director URI Graduate School of Library and Information Studies mhavener@uri.edu |

The graduate program leading to the degree of Master of Library and Information Studies at URI has received full accreditation from the American Library Association for SEVEN YEARS! That is the maximum continuation that a program can receive. Michael Havener and his colleagues deserve credit for this important accomplishment. |
