The Merleau-Ponty Circle is a loosely knit organization of students,
teachers, and scholars interested in the thought of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. It
convenes once a year, usually in September, at various colleges and
universities in the U.S., Canada, and abroad. During this annual three day
conference, philosophers, psychologists, historians, social scientists, health
care specialists, political theorists, etc. present papers on different
aspects of Merleau-Ponty's philosophy. From time to time, collections of
these papers are published.
Membership in the Circle is unrestricted; the only requirement is interest in Merleau-Ponty's work.
One becomes a member by e-mailing the Circle's General Secretary, Galen A. Johnson, Professor of Philosophy (University of Rhode Island) and requesting that one's name be added to the listserv.
Send membership requests to merleaufan@yahoo.com.
People on the listserv receive e-mailings of all conference announcements and programs, calls for papers, and the annual newsletter.
There are currently 750 members. There are no membership fees, although there are occasionally registration fees for the annual conference.
