Marc Hutchison (Ph.D., University of Kentucky, 2007) joined the URI political science department in the fall of 2007. While generally interested in the causes and consequences of international conflict, his research focuses primarily on the relationship between territorial threat and domestic political behavior, such as political tolerance, political trust, and political participation. Other research interests include questions of identity, the consequences of civil conflicts, state development, and African Politics. His research has been published in the Journal of Politics, Comparative Political Studies, the Journal of Conflict Resolution, and the Journal of Peace Research.
Professor Hutchison teaches undergraduate courses on International Politics, American Foreign Policy, and International Conflict as well as graduate seminars on International Relations. He also directs the interdisciplinary International Relations minor and the URI internship program at the Naval War College in Newport, RI.
