The Political Science Department faculty are dedicated to promoting personal and professional development in the area of Political Science and to preparing our students to both enter the professional world and to pursue advanced studies at the graduate level. The URI Political Science department welcomes Dr. Shanna Pearson-Merkowitz, the newest assistant professor in the department. Having studied at the University of Maryland, Professor Pearson-Merkowitz specializes in American politics, public policy, and Latino political engagement. Professor Pearson-Merkowitz will teach PSC-365 (Political Parties) in the fall of 2009.

Brian Chmielewski presented the preliminary results of his MA thesis, “A New Approach to Testing Theories of International Terrorism," at two major conferences this spring (Midwest Political Science Association & New England Political Science Association).
Emily Anderson has been accepted with full-funding to several PhD programs in Political Science including Ohio State, Columbia and Michigan State. Good luck next year!
