Alumni Spotlight

Dear Readers,

We’ve decide to grant our first alumni award to Ed Leduc, a distinguished faculty member who is retiring this year, and who is a  URI alumnus from 1948 [check this date].  Here is a brief sketch of his accomplishments, but to read more about this fine teacher and colleague, turn to our special Thank You.

After receiving his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1963, Ed taught at Pennsylvania State University with a joint appointment in the Institute of Public Administration and the Department of Political Science. There he served as Associate Director and in 1968 as Acting Director of the Center for Air Environment Studies at Penn State. Research in the CAES concerned arrangements for controlling air pollution in Pennsylvania and construction of air basins under the Clean Air Act.  Ed joined the faculty of URI in 1969 and has taught courses in American state politics, scope and methods, research methodology, statistics, public administration and public policy. He later served as Acting Director of the Bureau of Government Research.

His research has concentrated on polling citizens on public policy, including a survey of attitudes relating to water pollution on New England lakes and a survey of the attitudes of the 102 members of the 1986 Constitutional Convention in Rhode Island. More recently he has been examining the impact of reform, i.e. structural changes in state and local government as compared to their posited effects.

Who do you think belongs here and why? Submit your  nomination and we here at the PSC Report will do the rest. Each quarter's winner will receive a write-up, a posting of his or her professional bio, and an all expense paid trip to, well, okay so there's no trip. But we'll still write awonderful article and who knows, maybe some rich wonderful alum will be kind enough to provide some wonderful prize...

E-mail your nominations to Professor Al Killilea at: hookshot@uri.edu.
