Michael Vocino Ph.D. (cand.), Universiteit van Amsterdam. Professor of Political Science and Professor in the Library; Adjunct Professor of Library and Information Science.

Professor Vocino is currently the Collection Management Officer for all URI Libraries and is  former Director/Associate Dean of the University of Rhode Island Libraries and teaches in the Rhode Island Master of Public Administration Program and the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. He is the co-director of the Rhode Island Ethics Project, an undertaking funded by a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education (FIPSE). He is co-author of Labor and Industrial Relations Journals and Serials: an Analytical Guide (New York: Greenwood Press, 1990) and is also co-author of the book Ethical Decision Making in Public Administration (New York: Praeger Publishers, 1995). He co-authored the chapter, "A Model for Exploring Ethical Dilemmas with M.P.A. Faculty and Practitioners," in the book Teaching Ethics and Values (J. Bowman, ed. Albany, NY: State University of New York Press, 1996.) Professor Vocino was a Final Round Grant Application Reviewer for the U.S. Dept. of Education (FIPSE). His current research interests include public ethics and the media; popular culture and political theory; gay and other minority politics; and information and technology policy issues.

Most recently Professor Vocino has taught courses at the undergraduate level in political theory, film theory and political ideology.  This past summer he offered his newly created course "Political Science and the Internet."  At the graduate level he teaches courses in information management, information ethics and co-teaches "Ethics for Public Administrators" in the Rhode Island Master of Public Administration Program which is a joint venture of the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College.

     The Library has over 1,000,000 volumes, 1,300,000+ microforms, 11,768 serials, over 700,000 Government publications, numerous indexes on CD-ROM and through Internet access, 12,000 slides; 1,534 VHS tapes, 141 films, 244 music CDs, 6,250 maps and full internet access for many other resources including electronic journals. Its current budget is just under $5,000,000. Staffing is currently at 64 FTE and part-time students (19 faculty librarians and 45 paraprofessional and support staff, and student assts. with hundreds of FTE hours each week.) The system consists of the Main Library in Kingston and two branch libraries: the Pell Marine Sciences Library in Narragansett, and the College of Continuing Education Library at the URI Providence Center.
