Abstract
|
Meta-analysis was used to explore the conflicting findings in literature regarding the existence of the subliminal priming effect. A total of 17 articles with 28 individual studies were included in the analysis. Eleven studies reported non-significant or marginally significant findings. The final results indicated a robust subliminal priming effect of medium size (d = 0.67, p < .001). The distribution of effect sizes was heterogeneous, suggesting the presence of moderating factors such as length of prime, type of measure and priming method. Implications for further research are discussed. |
