Who do we see at the PCC?

The Psychological Consultation Center provides services to individuals and families. Some of the reasons that people seek our services include: depression, anxiety, marital and relational problems, difficulty managing behavior problems with children, difficulty coping with stressful life events, and a variety of other interpersonal issues. Individuals and families from the URI campus, surrounding Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts communities are eligible for services.

How much will it cost?

Every client pays a $30 Intake fee. Session fees are determined in collaboration with your therapist. We offer a sliding scale fee schedule to make our services affordable to all and best meet the needs of our clients. If you have health insurance, we will accept your office co-pay rate.

What are some common signs of depression?

Not all people with depression have the same symptoms. Some people might only have a few, and others a lot. How often symptoms occur, and how long they last, is different for each person. Symptoms of depression may include:

  • Feeling sad, anxious, or "empty"
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Loss of interest in hobbies and activities that you once enjoyed
  • Decreased energy
  • Difficulty staying focused, remembering, making decisions
  • Sleeplessness, early morning awakening, or oversleeping and not wanting to get up
  • Thoughts of hurting yourself
  • Easily annoyed, bothered, or angered
  • Constant physical symptoms that do not get better with treatment, such as headaches, upset stomach, and pain that doesn’t go away

What are some common symptoms of anxiety?

Symptoms vary depending on the type of anxiety disorder, but general symptoms can include:

  • Feelings of panic, fear, and uneasiness
  • Uncontrollable, obsessive thoughts
  • Repeated thoughts or flashbacks of traumatic experiences
  • Ritualistic behaviors, such as repeated hand washing
  • Problems sleeping
  • Cold or sweaty hands
  • Shortness of breath
  • Palpitations
  • Nausea/Dry mouth
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
  • Muscle tension
