happens . . .” “I see. . .” “That’s what happens.” —from Stuff Happens. That’s what Donald Rumsfeld said four years ago, during the looting of Baghdad. You will leave the theatre with completely absorbing insights into the character of our nation’s leadership in these times of historic decision making. THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE by Jay Presson Allen based on the novel by Muriel Spark
Synopsis The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie has attracted such stage and screen talents as Vanessa Redgrave, Zoe Caldwell, Maggie Smith and most recently, Cynthia Nixon to take on the lead role, a theatrical coup. The play takes place in Edinburgh, Scotland in the 1930s when Fascism was rising in the world. Miss Jean Brodie is a spellbinding, unconventional teacher at a girls’ school who, with her opinionated, anecdotal and eccentric teaching style grasps the imagination of a group of girls – the “crème de la crème” during the most impressionable time of their lives. Her male colleagues are also drawn to this tour de force of a woman who is often the bane of the traditional headmistress. Serious and comedic, the action of the play moves to its startling conclusion: “Give me a girl at an impressionable age, and she is mine for life.”
