Every spring, the University of Rhode Island College of Arts & Sciences holds its annual Visualizations Film Festival. Undergraduate students, in any major or college, who are interested in film and/or video are strongly encouraged to enter this competition, in which winners are awarded cash prizes and receive recognition for their achievements.
Now in its 10th year, the Visualizations Student Film Festival encourages URI undergraduate students to produce a diverse array of films and videos in a variety of formats. In addition, the Festival encourages students to write critically about film or television, and to write original film treatments. Through this annual event, students compete for prizes, and have their films screened at public events, which includes the awards ceremony, at which time the Fred Joyal Best of Festival award is judged and selected. The Festival also provides an opportunity for student filmmakers to meet various film industry professionals and have their work screened and recognized by their peers, faculty, friends and family. The screenings and awards ceremony are free and open to the public. Visualizations 2008 includes six production categories: Animation, Experimental, Documentary, News Segment, Commercial/PSA, and Narrative/Open; plus two writing categories: Critical Essay and Film Treatment. All undergraduate students enrolled for the academic year 2007/2008 are eligible to submit competitive entries to the Festival.
