German Police Official Arrested for Immigrant Smuggling

BERLIN, Oct 4, 2000 (Ananova) -- A top German policeman, already forced into early retirement for running a brothel, has been arrested pending charges of smuggling a prostitute into the country.

The Berlin chief superintendent was suspended, then pushed into early retirement after the scandal over the police-run brothel broke three years ago.

Named only as Detlef K, he and three other policemen had set it up with three well-known criminals and were earning a healthy profit from the prostitutes working for them.

Now one of the women, named only as Irina B, 25, has told detectives how she was smuggled from her homeland Ukraine into Germany by the superintendent.
