Writing & Rhetoric

Graduate Specialization in Rhetoric & Composition

(A shared program with the English Department)

Welcome!

The University of Rhode Island has a long and proven track record in the field of Rhetoric & Composition. With seven full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty devoted to the study and practice of Writing & Rhetoric, we boast the largest Rhetoric & Composition doctoral faculty in New England. And yet, we believe that sometimes it is best to Think Big by thinking small. Thus, our program admits a limited number of high quality applicants to each year's cohort - ensuring that each student receives appropriate support and ample opportunities to engage in our professional work alongside us.

Please explore the different aspects of our program, and contact us if you want to learn more about our graduate specializations:

Director of Graduate Studies in Rhetoric & Composition: Bob Schwegler
Assistant Director of Writing & Rhetoric: Joannah Portman Daley
