URI Field Hockey was founded in 2008 by Jessica Foley, Samantha Pincins, and Jenna Oppel after the Division I program at the University was terminated. The three captains built the team from the ground up, recruiting athletes, creating a budget, and joining the National Field Hockey League. Since their graduation, the team has continued to grow. In the spring of 2011, the team travelled to the University of Maryland for the annual NFHL spring tournament. In the fall of 2011, the team finished the fall season ranked 13th in the nation of 88 teams, qualifying for the NFHL National Tournament in Virginia Beach, VA.
The fall and spring seasons include games against UConn, Brown, Northeastern, and other schools in the New England area.
Practices occur four times per week and games take place on the weekends. Try outs are held during the first week of the fall semester.
Please email us if you are interested in trying out or would like further information about the team.
