The Rams finished the 2008-2009 season ranked #9 in the country with an overall record of 23-11-1. The team lost in the quarterfinals of the ACHA National Championship tournament in overtime to Ohio University.

University of Rhode Island Head Coach Joe Augustine achieved his 400th career win on Nov 14th by battling back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat NCAA Division III opponent Wesleyan University by the score of 6-4. 

Joe Augustine is in his 20th season as Head Coach at the University of Rhode Island.  He brings more than 25 years of experience to the Rhode Island Hockey program both as a player and as a coach.  Under Augustine, Rhode Island has enjoyed a 400-174-34 record, 19 consecutive winning seasons and one ACHA National Championship in 2006. Augustine won back-to-back ACHA Men's Division I Coach of the Year honors in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and was the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association Coach of the Year in 2003-04. He has acted as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2006 World University Games in Turin, Italy.  Coach Augustine was selected as the head coach for Team USA for the World University Games in Harbin, China from February 18-28, 2009.

In 2008, the Rams completed the season ranked 7th overall in the American Collegiate Hockey Association with a record of 23-15-1. The URI Men’s Ice Hockey team competes in the newly created Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL). Teams in the ESCHL include Penn State University, Delaware University, United States Naval Academy and Drexel University. Each team will play each other four times which makes the ESCHL one of the top leagues in the country. URI Hockey plays against some NCAA Division III opponents as well as other top ACHA teams in the country. The season begins in September and concludes in March which includes practicing four times a week, two games per weekend all adding up to about 40 games in total. The URI Hockey team encourages everyone to watch a game at the new Brad Boss Ice Arena. The team entering the 2008 season is 91-18-3 since opening. Ticket Prices at the gate of the Brad Boss Ice Arena are $2.00 for URI students with ID and children under 12. Adult tickets are $5.00 each or purchase a season pass for only $75.00. Directions to the Brad Boss Ice Arena:


From the South: I-95 North to exit #3A (Rte.138)-towards Kingston/Newport. Follow for eight miles and turn left into the Keaney Gymnasium parking lot. The Arena is on your left, after the tennis courts.


From the North: I-95 South to left exit #9 (Rte. 4 South). Follow Rte. 4 South to exit 5B (Rte. 102 North). At the first intersection, take a left onto Rte. 2. Follow Rte. 2 approximately six miles to the intersection of Rte. 138. Take a left onto Rte. 138 East. Go straight through two sets of lights. Turn left into Keaney Gymnasium parking lot. The Arena is on your left, after the tennis courts.
