The Mackal Cardio Center will be CLOSED for home Track Meets and Special Events (including set-up and tear down).

 

Mackal Cardio Center & Weight Room Policies

Patrons are expected to comply with Fitness Center directives while utilizing the Fitness Center.

  • All members are required to present a valid URI ID card or a current Rec Pass to the Fitness Attendant as they enter the Fitness Center.  After membership validation, please make sure the Fitness Center monitor returns your I.D. prior to your workout.

  • The URI Fitness & Wellness staff reserves the right to put into effect any new guidelines  to protect the health, safety and integrity of the participants using the Mackal Fitness Center.  Patrons are expected to comply with the Fitness Center directives while utilizing the facilities.
  • Full t-shirts, athletic shoes and proper athletic attire are required at all times. Changing of clothes is NOT permitted in the Fitness Center. Jeans, jean shorts, hiking boots and open toed shoes are also NOT permitted.
  • Please follow proper etiquette and demonstrate courtesy towards others who are working out at all times.
  • Members should receive instructions on equipment that they are unfamiliar with. Orientations are recommended and may be scheduled in person at the Fitness Center.
  • The use of the cardiovascular machines is on a first-come, first serve basis.
  • Use of Free Weights:
    - Re-rack all weight plates immediately after use
    - Return dumbbells to rack in order
    - Do not slam or drop free weights on the floor
    - Collars are mandatory on all lifts with Olympic bars
    - Do not lean weights against walls, mirrors, glass or equipment

  • Spotters are recommended on all lifts.
  • Equipment may not be removed from the Fitness Center at any time for any reason.
  • Screaming or use of offensive language WILL NOT BE tolerated anywhere in the facility.
  • Members must carry a towel and/or use paper towels provided to wipe off and disinfect equipment after each use.

  • No more than four (4) members of any one varsity or club sport team may use the room at the same time.
  • Chalk is NOT permitted in the Fitness Center.
  • Personal belongings (coats, gym bags, back packs, etc.) are NOT permitted in the Fitness Center. Please store items in the blue cubbies and or lock belongings in the recreational locker rooms.
  • Tobacco, food, chewing gum, glass bottles and cans are NOT permitted in the Fitness Center. All bottles must be plastic and contain water ONLY.    
  • Members should immediately report any Fitness Center related injury or facility/equipment irregularity to the staff on duty.
  • Intentional misuse of equipment and/or facility may result in immediate expulsion. Failure to leave when asked may result in assistance from security personnel and loss of facility privileges.
  • The Mackal Cardio Center will be CLOSED during all home varsity indoor track meets and/or special events.
