Spring 2013


  • Spring into Shape - FREE
    Mix up your routine and try some new classes! All classes are at 8:30 p.m.
    • Mega Mondays: Classes will be held on Mackal Court 1

      - February 4th: Happy, Healthy Hearts
      - March 4th: Kick to the Core
      - April 1st: Self Defense

    • Worldly Wednesdays: Classes will be held in the Group Ex Studio

      - February 6th: Rio Carnival

  • Wellness Wednesdays @ the Rec - FREE

          For URI Students, an informational table will be set up in the Mackal Cardio Center

          from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

  • Diversity Week: "The Age of Fitness" presented by our Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness, Leticia D. Orozco.  Thursday, October 4th at 11:00 a.m. in the Tootell Group Exercise Studio.
    "Men vs. Women" will also be presented by our Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness, Leticia D. Orozco.  Thursday, October 4th at 2:00 p.m. in the Tootell Group Exercise Studio.  Please see Diversity Week schedule at uri.edu/mcc for more information.


  • Rhody Rec Games
    Tuesday,October 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
    Team of 3-5 people (must have 1 female participant) compete in the 10 aspects of fitness in the Mackal Field House
    Registration:  September 5th - October 15th in the Fitness & Wellness Office        
    Fee:  $25 per team
  • Les Mills Body Pump
    Thursday, October 18th, Tootell Group Exercise Studio
    Free class will be held at 5:00 p.m.

    Instructor Training Class: November 3rd & 4th - Registration is required

Fitness Workshops

Wellness is often defined as the absence of disease. It should be viewed as a higher level of well-being. Working towards developing all these areas will help you establish a more balanced life.

There are 7 dimensions of wellness:

  • Spiritual
  • Occupational
  • Intellectual
  • Environmental
  • Emotional
  • Social
  • Physical

Upon request, the Fitness & Wellness staff is available to provide specialty workshops for residence halls, University groups, your office, etc. Call 874.2822 for more details.
