Purchasing A Rec Pass Membership

Rec Pass Memberships are restricted to URI students, faculty, staff, alumni, their respective spouses and dependents (ages 17 - 22). The University allows eligible domestic partners and their families to purchase family memberships. During the academic year, fees for all full-time and part-time matriculating students are included in the payment of the semester tuition and fee bill. All other eligible members may purchase a Mackal-Keaney-Tootell Complex membership in person at the Rec Service Center in the Mackal main lobby. Membership fees are non-refundable and non-transferable and may be purchased by cash, check and all major credit cards.

Rec Pass Membership applications MUST be made in person.
URI Part-time students and Employees MUST present a current URI picture I.D. card at the time of registration. Alumni are requested to present some form of picture identification (i.e. drivers license). A spouse must be accompanied by the sponsoring person or bring the sponsoring person's University identification. All patrons other than URI Students and paying guests will be issued a Mackal photo identification card at the time of their registration and fee payment. The fee for a replacement/lost I.D. is $10.00. This includes memberships that are not renewed upon expiration.


Guest Pass Policy

  1. Guest passes are available to purchase when at the Rec Service Center during facility hours. Valid members may sponsor up to two (2) guests per day. Guest passes may be purchased for immediate use only, when both the member and the guest(s) present their valid URI ID/Rec Pass card at the time of purchase for $10.00 each. Please check the weekly activity schedule for availability prior to purchasing a guest pass.

    Guests must:
    • Be 17 years of age or older
    • Be with a sponsor who can show a valid membership card
    • Passes are only valid for date of purchase
    • Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable
    • Show valid photo identification and complete guest application and waiver
    • Adhere to all established facility rules and regulations.
  2. Each member who sponsors a guest is responsible for the conduct of their guest(s) and must accompany them at all times in activity areas. Guests and sponsors must adhere to all established facility rules and regulations.
  3. Guest may use all facilities except for Keaney Gymnasium and the varsity weight room(s).
  4. Only sponsors can check out equipment from the Rec Service Center to be used by guests.
  5. Sponsors are financially responsible for loss or damage to equipment or facilities committed by their guests and may be held responsible if their guest fails to comply with facility rules and regulation.

URI Student Parent Pass

URI Recreational Services invites students to bring their parent(s) or guardian(s) for a complimentary work-out at the Mackal-Keaney-Tootell Complex. Parent passes must be obtained in advance from the Mackal Main Office. Each parent/guardian is entitled to two (2) passes per semester. Privilege not in effect during summer session.

ID Required

To ensure that only eligible individuals are using the Mackal- Keaney-Tootell Complex, each participant are required to hand his/her valid URI ID/Rec Pass to the Rec Service Center attendant and Fitness Center monitor, or lifeguard upon each entry into the facility. Individuals will not be allowed to enter the facility unless they present proper identification.

Forgotten ID

Students who forget or lose their valid membership I.D. must pay the $5.00 forgotten I.D. fee in order to use the facilities. You are eligible for a refund if you present your forgotten I.D. pass receipt and your valid URI I.D./Rec Pass to the Rec Service Center within 3 consecutive days (when the Complex is open) of the date of purchase of the pass. Patrons who forget their I.D. more than two (2) times during a semester, will be denied access.

Membership Discounts / Benefits

As a benefit of membership, URI Students; Rec Pass and/or TAC Pool members receive discounted rates on many program offerings such as: group fitness classes; learn to swim lessons; certification classes (first-aid, CPR, AED instructional classes); locker and towel service and special events. Members will also receive priority registration for aquatic programs (on-line and in-person). Find out more by calling the Rec Service Center at 874-5926.
