FAST LANE CLUB

ALUMNI E-MAIL ADDRESSES

The Fast Lane Club has been in existence since 1980 to support the
competitive aquatic programs that are part of the Intercollegiate
Athletic Department at the University of Rhode Island.

Its primary purpose is to raise money and generate support for the Program. The Colorado
Timing System and the Paragon Starting Blocks in the Tootell Aquatic Center are in place
because of the efforts of the FLC. The beautiful mural on the west wall of the Aquatic
Center was a gift of the Class of 1991.

Club members are currently undertaking the task of raising money to upgrade our timing
system to provide a complete, eight-line read-out, scoreboard, and a Colorado-5 console
to run the system. The goal for the completion of this project is the summer of 1996.

The FLC sponsors two events throughout each year that provide direct support to our
student athletes. Each year they help our Teams on their annual Winter Training Trip
to the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. They also sponsor
the annual Awards Banquet at the end of the year.

Alumni Events

A valuable function of the Club is to maintain contact with all of our alumni and friends.
Numerous events are sponsored throughout the year that help us do that. Don Duncan, '84,
has been the prime mover behind the Fast Lane Club Golf Outing for the last several years.
This past year's Outing was held at the three-year-old Richmond Country Club in Richmond,
Rhode Island. Over $4,000 was raised that day, which will be applied toward the up-grading
of our timing system.

That same day the FLC sponsored what we hope will become an annual event to complement
the golf outing. At beautiful Mosby Center overlooking Narragansett Bay we held a cook-out
for the "non-golfing" alumni. It is anticipated that these two events will bring more and more
alumni together each year.

And, of course, Homecoming brings many swimming/diving alumni back to the Campus in the
Fall. Numerous tailgating parties help our many friends to renew friendships. Perhaps in
future years the annual Alumni Water Polo game will be resurrected. It was held in former
years on the Friday night before Homecoming.
