International Travel/Mandatory Emergency Evacuation Services Program
PURPOSE: To protect the health, safety, and welfare of the University community when traveling abroad on University business and/or studies.
It is the goal of the University to ensure as best as possible the safety of our University community while conducting University business abroad or education abroad. Accordingly, it is the policy of the University of Rhode Island that ALL University employees, volunteers, and students traveling abroad - regardless of funding source - enroll in the International Travel/Mandatory Emergency Evacuation Services Program (FrontierMedex). Further, this policy applies to any individual traveling abroad on behalf of or in the name of the University of Rhode Island. The Program utilizes the services of FrontierMEDEX through our insurance agents.
IMPORTANT NOTE: FrontierMEDEX is NOT health insurance. You should maintain your own personal health insurance and, prior to traveling, check with your health insurer to determine how your health insurance program applies to medical care while abroad.
From this web page, travelers can purchase the plan, print an ID card, locate travel emergency phone numbers, find answers on the FAQ, access DOS travel alerts, and link directly to the FrontierMEDEX web site. Purchase can be done using a University PCARD, Chartfield String, or by using a personal credit card. Cost is $2.06/week; $8.25/month; $99.00/year. (A minimal processing fee may be charged for credit card purchases.)
